My Apprenticeship Journey with Total Group

As we celebrate National Apprenticeship Week, I'm thrilled to share my journey of growth and achievement through Total Group's apprenticeship program. Joining the team on September 22, 2022, as a Service Desk Engineer, this experience has been nothing short of transformative.

With a foundation in computer science and IT, I embarked on an 18-month Level 3 Information Communications Technician - Azure Cloud Support Specialist course. This program not only sharpened my technical skills but also challenged me to apply my knowledge in practical, impactful ways. Outside of work, I'm motivated and driven by my passion for photography, global cuisines, and comics.

I would have to say the highlight of my apprenticeship was a project focused on System Maintenance, ensuring company devices were compliant and updated. Despite facing challenges, such as restarting my final assignment from scratch, the unwavering support from my team and mentors at Total Group was instrumental in my success. This experience underscored the value of hands-on learning and the importance of a supportive learning environment.

Total Group's commitment to apprenticeships is a testament to the belief that investing in talent is crucial for fostering innovation and driving business success. My journey is a prime example of how apprenticeships offer a unique blend of learning and practical experience, preparing individuals for the challenges of the tech industry while contributing fresh perspectives and skills to the company.

As the only woman engineer in my team currently, I've navigated stereotypes and emerged more confident in my role, hopeful for a future where the tech industry is known for its equality and opportunities for all. This apprenticeship has not only equipped me with valuable skills but also reinforced the importance of diversity and inclusion in tech.

For businesses contemplating the value of apprenticeships, my story is a testament to the mutual benefits they offer. Investing in talent through such programs, such as the STEM Scheme, not only nurtures our future industry leaders but also enriches company culture with diversity, innovation, and a commitment to growth. During a time where technology and data is constantly changing and being revolutionised, it's so important to take the time to properly train and educate employees. This apprenticeship enables an optimised future for both the company and employee as we both leave the experience with added value, knowing nothing is left unturned.
