Microsoft 365 security and compliance

Microsoft 365 Security and Compliance, Managed for You

Most attacks on small businesses start in Microsoft 365: a phishing email, a stolen password or a forwarding rule nobody noticed. We close those doors, watch for the ones that open, and give you the evidence your auditors, insurers and customers ask for.

What we do

Security in Microsoft 365 is a set of layers. Each one stops a different kind of attack, and each one only works if it is set up properly and someone is watching it.

Email threat protection

Phishing, malware, spam and spoofed email stopped before it reaches the inbox, with suspicious links checked when they are clicked.

Multi-factor authentication

A second factor on every account, with location and device checks. Our Total MFA service adds the same protection to older applications.

24/7 security monitoring

Our security operations centre watches sign-ins, mailbox rules and admin changes day and night, and acts on anything suspicious.

Account takeover response

If an account behaves like it has been taken over, such as a login from an unusual country followed by a new forwarding rule, the account can be locked straight away.

Device compliance

With Business Premium, PCs and phones must meet your policy, encrypted, patched and protected, before they can open company data.

Compliance evidence

Reports on security posture, changes and incidents that support Cyber Essentials, GDPR, ISO 27001 and sector audits.

What attackers tryHow we stop it
Phishing email with a fake login pageEmail threat protection filters it, link checking blocks the page, and MFA stops a stolen password from working.
Password bought from a past breachMFA and conditional access block the sign-in, and the attempt is reported.
Hidden mail forwarding ruleNew forwarding rules are flagged to our security team and external forwarding is blocked by policy.
Sign-in from another countryLocation rules block or challenge it, and our security operations centre investigates.
Lost or unmanaged laptopDevice compliance blocks access to company data and the device can be wiped remotely.

Questions and answers

Does Microsoft 365 not already include security?

It includes good tools, but many of them are switched off by default or need careful set-up. Business Premium in particular has strong protection that most businesses never configure. We set it up, add specialist email protection and monitoring, and keep it working.

Will this help us pass Cyber Essentials?

Yes. Multi-factor authentication, secure configuration, device compliance and account control are all Cyber Essentials requirements, and our baseline is built around them. See our Cyber Essentials service for the full picture.

What happens if an account is compromised?

Our security operations centre is alerted, the account can be locked straight away, sessions are revoked and passwords reset. We then check for any forwarding rules or data access and tell you what happened.

How much does it cost?

Email security is £2.25 per user per month, multi-factor authentication from £7.00 per user per month and 24/7 monitoring of Microsoft 365 is £49.25 per month for your tenant, all plus VAT. Use the calculator on our Professional Management page to price everything together.
