Mobile device management (MDM)

Every phone, tablet and laptop that opens company email or files, managed from one place. A live device list, updates and screen locks enforced, and lost or stolen devices wiped. It is also the simplest way to prove Cyber Essentials, now that phones are in scope.

Why MDM matters now

Phones are in Cyber Essentials scope

Any phone or tablet that can open company email or files is part of your Cyber Essentials scope, personal phones included. Each one needs a supported, up-to-date operating system and a screen lock.

Lost and stolen phones

A phone left in a taxi can hold years of client email. With MDM you wipe the company data in minutes, wherever the phone is.

Staff who leave

When someone leaves, their access to company data leaves with them, from every device, on their last day.

Clients and insurers ask

Due diligence questionnaires and cyber insurance forms now ask how you control mobile devices. MDM gives you a straight answer and the evidence behind it.

What you get

A live device list

Every enrolled phone, tablet and laptop with its owner, model and operating system version: the list a Cyber Essentials assessor asks for.

Updates enforced

Devices that fall behind on security updates are flagged, then blocked from company data until they are updated.

Screen lock and encryption

A PIN or biometric lock and device encryption are required before company email or files will open.

Work and personal kept apart

On personal phones, company email and files sit in a separate work area. We can wipe it without touching personal photos or apps, and we cannot see the personal side.

Only trusted devices get in

Microsoft 365 checks each device before letting it in, so an unmanaged or out-of-date device cannot reach company data.

Apps and settings pushed out

Outlook, Teams, Wi-Fi and the apps your team needs arrive on new devices automatically. New starters are ready on day one.

We use Microsoft Intune. Intune licences are included with Microsoft 365 Business Premium, so most businesses already own it.

Questions and answers

What is mobile device management (MDM)?

MDM is software that lets you manage every phone, tablet and laptop that opens company email or files from one place. You can see each device, enforce updates, screen locks and encryption, push the apps people need, and wipe company data from a device that is lost, stolen or leaves with a member of staff.

Are phones now in scope for Cyber Essentials?

Yes. Any phone or tablet that can open company email or files is part of your Cyber Essentials scope, including personal phones. The assessor needs to see that each one runs a supported, up-to-date operating system, has a screen lock, and is protected if it is lost. MDM is the simplest way to prove that.

Can staff use their own phones?

Yes. With Microsoft Intune, company email and files sit in a separate work area on the phone. We can wipe the work area without touching personal photos, messages or apps, and we cannot see the personal side of the device.

Which MDM do you use?

Microsoft Intune. Intune licences are included with Microsoft 365 Business Premium, so most of our clients already own it. If you are on a lower Microsoft 365 plan we will show you the cheapest way to get it.

How much does MDM cost?

A one-off setup from £710 + VAT (up to 3 device profiles) or £1,640 + VAT for an advanced setup (up to 12 profiles), then management from £2.75 per device per month + VAT. MDM is included in our Infinity and Infinity Plus packages.

How long does it take to set up?

For most small businesses, setup and enrolment of the existing phones and laptops is completed in a few days. We plan it with you so nobody loses access to email while devices are enrolled.
