OneDrive: Personal Files That Follow Your People Safely

OneDrive keeps each person's files synced across their devices and protected in the cloud. We set it up so Desktop and Documents are protected automatically, company files sync from SharePoint, and nothing is lost when a laptop is.

What we do

OneDrive is one of the simplest ways to protect against a lost, stolen or failed laptop, if it is set up properly.

Known folder protection

Desktop, Documents and Pictures redirected to OneDrive automatically, so files are protected without anyone thinking about it.

SharePoint sync

Company libraries synced to File Explorer, so people work the way they always have.

Sharing limits

External sharing controlled by policy, and sync limited to company devices if you choose.

Ransomware rollback

Files can be rolled back to a point before an attack, and our backup keeps copies outside Microsoft too.

Device compliance

With Business Premium, only compliant, encrypted devices can sync company files.

Leavers

A leaver's OneDrive is kept and handed to their manager, not deleted with the account.

Questions and answers

What is the difference between OneDrive and SharePoint?

OneDrive is for each person's own work files. SharePoint is for files that belong to a team or the company. Both sync to File Explorer, and we set them up to work together.

What happens to OneDrive files when someone leaves?

We transfer them to their manager or keep them in the backup, so nothing is lost when the licence is removed.

Is OneDrive a backup?

It protects against a lost or broken laptop, but deletions and ransomware sync too. That is why we add a separate Microsoft 365 backup outside Microsoft.
